How to Upload / Download patches with the computer

To update your Axe-Fx firmware please follow the following steps:

This is how you do it with a PC:

1. Connect your PC's MIDI Out to the Axe-Fx MIDI In.
  
1) Download MIDI-OX if you dont already have it: http://www.midiox.com/ <BR />

2. Load the accompanying sysex file into your MIDI librarian.
2) Start MIDI-OX, and use "Options -> Midi Devices" to select your Midi device input/output (this might pop up automatically the first time you run midiox)<BR />
 
3) Open the sysex window "View -> Sysex..." <BR />
 
4) Select "Sysex -> Receive manual dump" to start listening for a sysex dump <BR />
 
5) On the AxeFx, press the "Utility" button, and use the "Page" button to navigate to the "Preset" page. <BR />
 
6) From here you can either select "Dump Preset to MIDI" (for a single preset) or the various "Dump Bank...." for the banks, press "Enter" to start dumping. <BR />
 
7) MIDI-OX will now receive the preset(s), and you can just use "Display Window -> Save as..." to save it to a .syx file <BR />
 
  
If you want to send data to the AxeFx, use steps 1-3 and then: <BR />

4) "Command Window -> Load file..." <BR />
 
5) "Command Windows -> Send Sysex". <BR />

Mac users will need to use the Snoize Sysex tool instead of Midi-Ox. The steps should be very similar but someone with a Mac needs to cover the specifics.<BR />

If all goes well the Axe-Fx will display "GOOD CHECKSUM" and proceed to reprogram the flash memory.  If the file format was incorrectly interpreted by your librarian or any other problems occur the Axe-Fx will display "BAD CHECKSUM" and abort the update procedure.  If this happens turn the unit off and then back on and check your librarian settings and then repeat this procedure.

- Due to constant improvements there may be some minor differences in sound when upgrading firmware.  After upgrading you should check that your presets sound the way you desire.  You may need to fine tune the gain, EQ, etc.

- If you are using MIDI-OX to send the firmware to the Axe-Fx be aware that MIDI-OX's default settings may cause a buffer overrun error in that program.  We recommend the following settings:

To configure MIDI-OX use: View -> Sysex to bring up the Sysex view window then Sysex -> Configure to configure the buffers.

4. Press ENTER.

5. Send the file from your PC to the Axe-Fx. A progress box should appear on the Axe-Fx displaying the transfer progress. It will take several minutes to transfer the file.
