With version 4.0 of the firmware, the Axe-Fx is able to use up to ten user cabinets. This process involves creating or obtaining an impulse response of an existing cabinet, converting it for use with the Axe-Fx and uploading it.

Obtaining an impulse response

You can record your own impulse response by inputting a click or pop to the cabinet. The resulting signal is the impulse response. Please see the main article on impulse responses for more information.

Converting an impulse response

Follow these steps, skipping any that don't apply. If you aren't comfortable with any of these steps, wait until the conversion utility is updated with more features.:

  • Convert the file to a mono .wav.
  • Use a sample rate converter to convert your .wav to 48kHz. (Free sample rate converter)
  • Zero pad the .wav to 4k (4096) samples or more.
  • Use the conversion utility to convert the .wav into a SYSEX (.syx) file.
    • The file needs to be in the same directory as the utility.
    • The utility doesn't take any arguments (for now).
  • Use a hex editor to change the second byte to the number of the cab to write to.
    • The first byte of the file is "0A". Change the next byte.
    • 00 = user cab 1, 01 = user cab 2, etc.
Uploading the impulse response

Simply transfer the SYSEX file to the Axe-Fx using whatever software you use to transfer patches.
