NOTE: Starting with firmware 20.00, Axe-Edit III 1.12.00 (or greater) is required to communicate with the Axe-Fx III. Previous versions of Axe-Edit III (versions 1.11.01 or less) will not work with firmware 20.00 or greater. Axe-Edit III 1.12.00 (or greater) will work with previous firmware version 3.02 and greater.

Current Axe-Fx III Firmware Version: 21.01

  • Support for firmware 21.02
    • Added AMP layout "59 Bassguy RI Jumped"
    • Added DRIVE block layout for "Bosom Boost" and "OD-One Overdrive"
    • Updated layouts for COMPRESSOR, GATE, and INPUT blocks.
  • Corrected the Setlists and Songs dialog to send the song ID under the SONG table's selected row to the connected device upon clearing the SONG search field. This allows the device to send the associated Song Section information.
  • Modifications to the main editor view (preset/grid/effect-editor) to clearly show that the editor is not connected to the device. These modifications include an empty preset/grid/effect-editor display and the disabling of file drag-and-drop.
  • Modifications to "Import Preset + Cab Bundle" dialog to allow importing of all or a subset of the items within the bundle.
  • Preset Translation modifications:
    • Cab slots 3 and 4 are MUTED when converting an FM3 or FM9 preset to the Axe-Fx III.
    • MODIFIER "Source1 Scale" and "Source2 Scale" are set to 100% when converting an FM3 or FM9 preset to the Axe-Fx III.
  • Modifications to support Fractal-Bot version 3.0.14 (an internal editor version of Fractal-Bot). The editor's internal Fractal-Bot now allows connecting to the correct device when two-or-more of the same device (Axe-Fx III, FM3, or FM9) are connected to MacOS.
  • Modifications to support Fractal-Bot version 3.0.15 (an internal editor version of Fractal-Bot). Corrected the embedded Fractal-Bot panel "Transmit All Banks File" which incorrectly gave the error "Please select a destination."

  • Corrected the Preset Translator to convert DELAY blocks between FM3 and Axe-Fx III. The conversion needed to take into account the version numbers for when both the FM3 and the Axe-Fx III doubled the delay time from 8 seconds to 16 seconds.
  • Modified the "Import Preset+Cab Bundle" dialog to only show the unique IRs in the bundle. Previously, if the preset within the bundle utilized a CAB block with the same user IR configured in more than one channel, then that IR would be displayed multiple times in the dialog box.

  • Updated the PresetTranslator to translate the Axe-Fx III CAB block "Mic Distance" to/from FM3 and FM9.

  • Updated the PresetTranslator to set the CAB block "IR Length" to default when translating between the Axe-Fx III and the FM3/FM9. The Axe-Fx III has different "IR Length" options than the FM3/FM9, while the FM3 and FM9 have the same options.

  • Corrected a bug in the Channel menu's "Copy Current Channel to All Channels" in which only Channel A would be used as the source regardless of the selected channel. This bug was introduced in version 1.10.03.
  • Added the ability for Axe-Edit to determine if the selected device is currently connected to another Fractal Audio application. Requires the minimum version of Fractal-Bot 3.00.12.

  • Corrected a bug in Manage Cabs Browser in which only the right-side of stereo .wav files would be read from the file.
  • Added a "WAV Import" setting to the Preferences : Cabinet Import category. This setting determines which channel or channels are read from stereo .wav files when the .wav files are added to the Manage Browser pane. When in Manage Cabs, the "Wav Import" setting can be changed from the Browser menu by selecting the "WAV Import Format" submenu.

    • Support for showing the 10 FullRes IRs in the Legacy bank. These IRs are accessible in the IR Player block and slots 3 and 4 of the Cab block.
    • Updated REVERB and MEGATAP layouts.
  • Corrected the importing of .wav files into the Scratchpad for Axe-Fx III firmware 17 and greater. All .wav files imported into the Scratchpad will automatically be converted to FullRes.
  • Color coding of IRs in the Cab block has been changed as follows: green is for standard resolution IRs, and purple is for enhanced IRs which includes UltraRes and FullRes.
  • The Cab Picker now displays an icon that reveals the format of each IR. (S) for standard resolution, (U) for UltraRes, and (F) for FullRes.
  • The Time graph in the IR Capture view changes the labels based on the capture Mode.
  • Corrected the Align graph page in the CAB block.
  • Fixed an issue in which converting a very large FM9 preset to an Axe-Fx III preset could crash the editor.
  • Updated the internal Fractal-Bot to version 3.0.11.

  • The Manage Presets and Manage Cabs dialogs have been combined into one tabbed dialog. The existing shortcuts and top-level Tools menu items will launch the Manage dialog with the respective tab selected. The Axe-Fx III mark II will show an additional tab for the FullRes bank when running firmware 17.
  • Reordered the items in the TOOLS menu.
  • Updated the internal Fractal-Bot to version 3.0.10, which adds support for FullRes(tm) IRs.
  • Corrected a bug in the Library's "Save" routine in which the latest firmware version was not being updated in the currently selected Library entry.
  • Corrected an issue in the Leveling Panel in which the Modifier state of the Out 1 and 2 levels were not being displayed.
  • Corrected the display of the ToneMatch block's slot. It was displaying as a zero-based index instead of a one-based index.
  • Added FM9 preset import functionality. Axe-Change now includes searching the FM9 presets by selecting "FM9" from the device dropdown.
  • Added "All Scenes" submenu to the Channel control's context menu.
  • Added Preset+Cab Bundle. A Preset+Cab Bundle contains one preset plus any User Cab Impulse Responses (IRs) used by that preset. Bundles make it easier to share sounds and are easy to export and import. The Preset+Cab Bundle functionality requires firmware 17 or greater.
    • To export a Bundle, use the Preset / "Export Preset-Cab Bundle" menu. This will display the "Export Preset+Cab Bundle" dialog. IRs that this preset refers to but does not use are excluded but can be included manually by checking them. Examples include IRs that are muted or channels that are not referred to by any scene. Factory cabs cannot be exported/checked.
    • To import a bundle, use the Presets / "Import Preset" menu or drag-and-drop a bundle file onto the editor's main Preset display. This will display the "Import Preset+Cab Bundle" dialog. This dialog unpacks a Preset-Cab Bundle and saves it ready-for-use to your Axe-Fx III. A Preset+Cab Bundle contains one preset plus all of the User Cab impulse Response (IRs) it requires. To proceed, you must select a location to save each of the items within the Bundle. The preset will be updated automatically to refer to the location(s) you selected for the IRs.

  • Corrected the flashing of the Picker window for the Library control (formerly Block Library).
  • Corrected the sorting of the Library items in the Library / Recall menu. This menu is found in the top-level Block and grid context menus.
  • Modified the Modifier dialog to force a refresh of the parameters when the Source parameter is changed.
  • Corrected the "Set All" feature to accept floating point values in the Controllers Sequencer, Scene Ctrl 1+2, and Scene Ctrl 3+4 pages.
  • Exporting a Tone Match to a User Cab location now refreshes the User Cab names.

  • Support for firmware 16.04
    • Added "Edit on Scn Change" to SETUP view. This corresponds to the hardware's "Indicate Edited on Scene Change" parameter found on the Config tab of Global Settings.
    • Updated the SEQUENCER layout.
  • Added "Preset and Scenes List..." to the Tools / "Export as Text" sub-menu. This command will load each preset of the Axe-Fx III creating a list of all non-empty presets and their scene names. Unnamed scenes are not included in the list. The final list will be exported to text file.

    • Complete redesign of AMP block layout. This includes the addition of new pages and a headroom gain meter on the Ideal page.

  • Corrected a bug in the Perform View which showed "ghosted" labels from a previous preset where a control does not exist in the current preset.

  • Added a "Global Settings" section to the Preferences which displays the OS-specific directory where the settings files are stored.
  • Modifications to allow the window to be dragged to any direction for external monitor use.
  • Added "Show Folder" menu item to the Perform View's Per-Preset Performance Controls menu.
  • Added "Copy to End" to the Copy submenu of the Scenes dropdown menu. This will copy the current scene to all of the scenes that follow. For example, selecting "Copy to End" from Scene 3 will copy Scene 3 to Scenes 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.
  • Modified Manage Cabs and Manage Presets to retain the currently assigned color when renaming items.
  • Renamed "Block Library" to "Library".
  • Added "Refresh Library" command to the Library dropdown menu, top-level Block menu, grid context menu, and Perform View dropdown menu.
  • Extended the Library to include a Channel Library.
    • The Library dialog displays the preset name as the default block name.
    • The "Library: Save" and "Library: Save As" dialog provide the option of saving as an "entire block" or as the "current channel".
    • "Save entire block" will save a library entry as an entire block of all of its channels and modifiers. This is the "old" or "legacy" method. The icon of a quartered square with 4 colored sections denotes an entry saved as an entire block (all channels). Loading a block entry will overwrite all channels in the selected block.
    • "Save only current channel" will save a library entry containing only the currently selected channel. No modifiers will be saved. The icon of a quartered square with 1 central overlapping colored section denotes an entry saved as a single channel. Loading a channel entry will overwrite only the currently selected channel. Loading a channel entry into an empty grid space will insert a new block and load the entry into CHANNEL A.

  • Corrected an issue in the "Per-Preset FC" view that showed incorrect values assigned to the PP switches.
  • Corrected an issue in the "FC Controllers" view that prevented user input in the editable controls of the FUNCTIONS section.
  • Corrected the Preset Leveling window from being set to an invalid size.

Allowable controls include rotary knobs, slider controls (which are displayed as rotary knobs), push-buttons, drop-downs, and toggle controls (e.g., on/off controls).
    • The editor's Perform view is accessed via the "Perform" button or the Tools / Performance menu.
    • Performance controls are assigned via drag-and-drop from a block's parameter view to the Perform view. To assign a block's parameter to the Perform view, click on the control's label and drag the control to the desired Perform configuration. (To assign a Perform control from the CONTROLLERS Sequencer, right-click on the Sequencer control and choose the location from the pop-up menu.)
    • Assigned controls within the Perform view can be drag-and-dropped to new locations. The Perform view supports the SWAP and MOVE operations similar to the Grid.
    • Each Performance control has two labels. To change the text of any Performance Control label, double click it. To reset the label to its default text use the "Reset Label" button.
    • To remove a Performance control, select the control and press the DELETE key.
    • The "Per-Preset Performance Controls" are stored per-preset. Adding or removing a control from this area will change the EDIT state of the preset.
    • The "Global Performance Controls" are stored in the Global Settings. Adding or removing a control from this area automatically saves the control to the Global Settings.
    • The "Per-Preset Performance Controls" can be save-to and loaded-from the Block Library using the arrow control in the "Per-Preset Performance Controls" title.

Axe-Edit 1.0 is the first release, following the final Beta version, 0.9.21. 1.0 is the first fully-supported non-beta release with all major program features and functions working with no known bugs. It also contains several new features and fixes:

  • Modified the "Amp 1" and "Amp 2" labels to handle mouse-over and mouse-clicks. When clicked a new amp-info popup appears with the amp type for each channel in the amp block. Both labels launch the same informational popup.
  • Modified the block parameter view to show the current preset's name and scene names when a block is not selected.
  • Implemented the Tools menu "Export as Text" submenu items "Factory Cabs list" and "User Cabs list.
  • Added support for firmware 1.16
