Automating volume swells

  • To make the volume level rise automatically (based on the Boss Slow Gear pedal), use a Volume block with an envelope modifier. Copy the Vol block and Envelope settings from a factory preset, such as Auto Swell Pongverb, Ganymede or Atmosphere.
  • Alternatively, for say Van Halen's Cathedral effect, set the noise gate to a low threshold, ratio to around 4 and turn down the volume on your guitar.

Tapers

  • The VOL block offers various audio tapers.
  • "The number is the percentage at the halfway point. I.e. Log 20A means that the resistance is 20% at the halfway point in the travel. So if you put the knob at noon, the volume would be 20% of maximum (about -14 dB)." Source

Using the Vol block as a noise gate

  • This thread offers a different approach to keeping the noise low. It's a Vol block with the volume parameter tied to the Envelope controller. As long as you don't hit the strings, the (input) signal is off.
