Assigning the tuner to a switch

  1. Scroll to the tuner CC (I/O > Ctrl) and hit Enter.
  2. Click the switch on the floor controller that you want to assign the tuner to.

Or configure it manually by assigning the tuner's MIDI CC to a switch on the floor controller.

Muting while tuning

  • The Axe-Fx II's output can be muted when engaging the tuner.
  • Firmware 6 and later: you have the choice of muting at the Input or Output. Muting at the Input stage allows delay and reverb trails to continue to sound. The Mute parameter is in the Tuner menu.

Tuner display on the floor controller

  • Fractal's own MFC-101 and certain controllers, such as from Gordius, Liquid-Foot and RJM, are able to display the Axe-Fx II tuner data on their displays.
    1. Enable real-time MIDI SysEx communication on the Axe-Fx II (I/O > MIDI) by setting it to “Tuner” or "All".
    2. Connect MIDI OUT on the Axe-Fx II to MIDI IN on the foot controller. Unless you have a controller that allows full bi-directional MIDI communication with the Axe-Fx II via a single 5-pin MIDI-cable (or CAT5 cable with the MFC-101).

Tuner detects only front input and Input 1 Left

  • The tuner only detects signals at the front input and Input 1 left (rear).

Strobe display, low strings detection and Magic 8-ball

  • Firmware 6 adds strobe tuner accuracy, detection down to G0 and “Magic 8-ball” display. The 8-ball rotates clockwise if the note is sharp and vice-versa.
  • Firmware 8.00: Improved Tuner as a result of improved pitch detection.

Display flickering

  • Cliff: "Display flickering on the tuner is normal. Some do it more than other. It's just the nature of the display. The display uses a ping-pong buffer. One page is updated while the other is displayed. Then the pages are switched. Some flickering can occur during the page switch. The reason it is noticeable more on the tuner is that the display is updated more frequently." Source
